"Encaustic USA" exhibition at ARC Gallery

I'm so proud to have had two of my paintings chosen to appear in "Encaustic USA" an upcoming exhibition at ARC Gallery here in Chicago.  The show was juried by Paul Klein, formerly of Klein gallery  who  now works as an Artist Career Advisor for Klein Artists Works and Shelley Gilchrist, artist and founder of FusedChicago, an association of encaustic artists in the Midwest region.

My paintings chosen for this show are from my newest work, the Observation Series and include "North Point Observation I" and "Observation II (Shoreline)"

ARC Gallery presents Encaustic USA

Friday, June 28 from 6-9 pm

The ancient way of painting in wax is being updated in this exhibit of 2-D and 3-D work by 29 contemporary encaustic artists. Join ARC as we look at, appreciate and desire to touch (if only one could) the warm and glowing works of these talented artists.

Exhibition dates: June 26 through July 20, 2013
Gallery hours: Wed to Sat 12-6 pm, and Sun. 12-4 pm

Among contemporary artists during the past dozen years, there has been a surging interest in exploring different uses of wax in their work, creating a virtual encaustic renaissance.  Art work created with encaustic is recognizable by the many and varied effects that can be achieved, depending on the artist's intent:  brilliant color; luminosity; surfaces that show brushstrokes, or are notably smooth or richly textured.

Encaustic USA displays the versatility of wax in the painting, drawing, monoprint, photography, and sculpture of twenty-nine accomplished artists, in styles ranging from abstract (or abstracted) to representational to conceptual.  The work highlighted in this exhibition makes full use of the medium of encaustic, and demonstrates its expressive potential realized through the individual artist's visions.

Juried by Paul Klein and Shelley Gilchrist, these works have  been  selected to showcase diverse styles of art in which encaustic is  used.
